Les tons bruyans, graves, doux et divers
Ouvrent les coeurs de tristesse couvers,
Et par l’accord d’une Musique sainte,
L’ame se sent jusques au vif atteinte:
Si mes chansons produisent tel effet,
La gloire en soit au Seigneur tout parfait,
Oeuvre parfait aussi je ne presente,
Par moi ne sont les autres surmontez,
Mais du grand Dieu, je chante les bontez.

Resounding, deep, sweet and varied tones
Penetrate hearts oerwhelmed with sadness,
And through the concord of a sacred Music
The soul feels itself touched to the quick.
If my songs call forth such an effect,
May the glory thereof go to my perfect Lord
And if at times I content not all,
Not perfect is the work that I offer,
Not by me are the others all surpassed,
But of great God I sing the goodness.
