Biography

Composer only known by about 20 chansons attributed to him between 1538 and 1559, most of which appeared among Attaingnant publications. He is notable for having composed the first known setting of a poem (the sonnet O foible esprit) by Joachim du Bellay, and a setting of Du fond de ma pensée by Marot in 1544. His works reflect the concise and chordal style heard in Sandrin’s music. Three chansons which had been printed under his name (Si quelque fois, Toutes les fois and Vous qui voulez) were reprinted by Le Roy & Ballard with attributions to De BussI. No musician bearing this name has yet been documented.
