[1] [Salve] regina

Polyphonic ensemble SATB

S-C1; A-C4; T-C4; B-F3. “Salve” intonation (S). Symmetry is achieved for partes 7 and 8 wherein subsequent duos (S/A and T/B) for the respective partes employ identical plainsong in A (7.p.) and in T (8.p.). Chant (App. 4) serves as a cantus firmus in T, primarily as semibreves, except for S (6.p.) and the aforementioned partes (7 and 8.p.); canon at the lower octave between S and T at distance of 1 breve defines the first seventeen measures of pars 9. Chant permeates the imitative texture at the beginning of most partes except pars 6 where the “Et Jesum” motive (S) appears in a homophonic texture; of particular interest is the concluding “salve” of pars 2, an independent section of six measures with breves in all voices. Triple mensuration defines pars 1. Final d, a (7.p., 8.p.).
