Polyphonic ensemble SATB

S-C1; A-C4; T-C4; B-F4. To differentiate the complementary verses 3 and 4 in pars 3 the segment “Ad te…flentes” of verse 4 contrasts in triple mensuration with the surrounding material in duple mensuration. Chant (App. 4) serves as a cantus firmus in long-note values, as migrating c.f. and as paraphrased plainsong. Paired imitation (S/A and T/B) with the “vita/salve” motto in S and T in longae supported by rhythmically active A and B introduces pars 2; thereafter, the c.f. continues in T but migrates to B for text “et spes nostra salve.” Plainsong also serves as c.f. in T of partes 6 and 7. Paraphrased plainsong appears in pars 3 (verse 3, S; verse 4, T), 4 (S) and 8 (T); paraphrased chant permeates the imitative texture of pars 5. Triple mensuration defines partes 1 and 7. Final d, a (6.p. and 7.p.)
