C-C1; A-C3; T-C4; B-F4. Alternatim setting. Paraphrased chant (App. 4) permeates the imitative texture at beginning of 1.p., and 3.p., as well as specific textual phrases (e.g., “in hac lacrimarum,” mm. 56-65). Chant also emphasizes particular words (e.g., “dulcedo,” mm. 9-12; “suspiramus,” mm. 42-6; and “nobis,” mm. 90-5). Vaet couples the “salve” motto (B, mm. 31-6) with the final word (“salve”) of verse 2 concurrently with the appropriate chant for “salve” (C). This antiphon may be regarded as a model for the composer’s five-voice setting, SR252, since similar musical materials are linked to the following textual passages in both antiphons:

Furthermore, the 4.p. of both motets is in triple mensuration. Declamatory text setting prevails. Final, d (1.p., 2.p. and 3.p.), a (4.p.).
