C I-G2; C II-G2; A-C2; T I-C3; T II-C3; B-F3. High clefs. Entire range, B♭-g’’. Equal C (f’-g’’) and T (f-a’) voices. “Salve” motto (App. 4), cast as breves, articulates initial phrase (T II, A, B, T I) within imitative texture (mm. 1-7). Textual phrases are differentiated through texture, antiphonal treatment and expressive harmony. A transparent imitative texture coupled with a variety of voice groupings and contrasting homorhythmic segments characterize the antiphon. For example, a duo (C II/A) introduces verse 5, “Eia ergo” followed by full voice, homorhythmic texture for “advocata nostra” (mm. 30-35). Expressive harmonic progressions (d, c, E♭, D) accompany “Et Jesum” followed by a duo (C I/C II, “benedictum fructum ventris tui,” mm. 41-5) and full-voice texture for “nobis…ostende.” Harmonic progressions express the acclamations “O clemens” (B♭, c, E♭, D) and “O pia” (d, E♭, A, d, c, E♭, D). A polyphonic texture comprised of diatonic stepwise melismas based upon harmonic progressions d and g (“O dulcis virgo Maria”) conclude this well-crafted antiphon. Final g, b♭ signature.
