Salve regina verses and textual phrases are defined by contrast of full-voice segments with various voice groupings of 2-4 voices, mensuration, and texture. Lassus evokes antiphonal treatment within a six-voice setting.

A homorhythmic texture prevails in verses 1-5, and particularly “illos…converte” in triple mensuration. On the other hand, verse 7-9 display greater independence of voices. Expressive harmonic progressions characterize specific verses or words (e.g., “O clemens,” A, d, F, E and “O pia,” A, g, B♭, A). Declamatory text setting dominates. Final d.
