C-C1; A-C3; T-C4; B-F4. “Salve” (“vita”) motto in semibreves and breve appears in B (mm. 1-3 and 6-8) in identical disposition as in SR 142 and 146; the remainder of the antiphon carries no chant references. Contrasting duo passages introduce verses 4 and 5. Minum rests inserted between “ad te” and “suspiramus” first with C/A, then T/B followed by full-voice texture express the text. Except for an imitative duo that opens verse 5, imitation is limited to brief segments that initiate textual phrases (e.g., “salve” of verse 1, “vita,” verse 2 and “ad te,” verse 3). Expressive harmonic progressions define specific words of textual phrases: “misericordes” (C, g, B♭, F) and “O clemens, O pia” (D, G, d, a, F, E). The word “mater” is omitted in verse 1. Declamatory text setting prevails. Final a (1.p.), d (2.p.).
