[C I]-C1; [C II]-C1; [A]-C3; [T I]-C4; [T II]-C4; [B]-F4. Entire range, F-f’’. Chant (App. 4) most conspicuously accompanies “salve” cast in breves and semibreves (C I, mm. 1-7; T I, mm. 4-8; C II, mm. 7-9) with a contrasting countersubject in A, T II, and B; the four initial pitches (in minums and semiminums) associated with the third and fourth verses (“ad te…”) permeate the imitative texture (mm. 21-4 and 29-30). Chant also accompanies “eya ergo” (C I, mm. 54-6 and C II, mm. 56-9) and “Et Jesum,” (B, mm. 82-5). Within a tripartite structure, verse 5, “Eya ergo,” the textual centerpiece is scored for C I, C II, A, T I. Textual phrases are differentiated through presence of chant, antiphonal techniques and contrasting textures and rhythmic gestures. A variety of voice combinations and rhythmic gestures including full-voice segments and antiphonal treatment appear in 1.p.. Antiphony emphasizes “gementes et flentes” (mm. 33-41) through alternation of two three-voice groups (C I, C II, T II and A, T I, B), the latter, a fourth lower; each group consists of identical rhythmic material for all voices (a minum followed by 10 semiminums concluding with a minum and a semibreve) and similar melodic contour. On the other hand, the 2nd and 3rd partes are primarily full-voiced with contrasting rhythmic gestures. Final d; b-flats included in Reg C95; additional editorial b-flats are required.

Salve, regina, mater misericordiae;

O clemens,

O pia,

O dulcis virgo Maria.
