Chant influence is limited to “salve” motto on d’’ (S) with text “salve regina,” its counterpart, “vita dulcedo” and the “Et Jesum” motive that accommodates the text “Et Jesum benedictum” in triplets as a means of emphasizing the text. Divitis assigned Adieu mes amour,[1] the monophonic melody, as cast in Josquin’s T of his four-voice chanson[2] including pitches, rhythm, and rests, to T I of this Salve regina; the cantus firmus, identified by the incipit “Adieu mes amours,” lacks texts of the chanson or Salve regina, was most likely performed by an instrumentalist. The initial four pitches of the borrowed melody (mm. 3-6) are anticipated in T II (mm. 1-3) and repeated with text “vita dulcedo” (mm. 7-10) along with the entire texture. Indeed, the symmetrical structure of the borrowed melody became a means of organizing the polyphonic setting of the antiphon text. Brief imitative passages introduce “gementes” (T II and B) and “eja ergo” (Ct and S). The word “mater” is omitted in verse 1. Final g, b♭ signature; a few e-flats included in MS but editorial e-flats are necessary.
