Polyphonic ensemble SATB

C-C1; A-C3; T-C4; B-F4. Primarily related to C, chant (App. 4) appears intact or paraphrased; the “salve/vita” motto (mm. 1-5 and 11-4), and “et Jesum” (presented in B within homorhythmic context, mm. 66-8) and “nobis” motives (T, B, C, mm. 77-81) are characterized by long note values. The inclusion of “salve” motto with two statements of text “illos tui” (B, mm. 54-8) is unprecedented. Asola has grouped verses 1 and 2, 3 and 4, and the final three acclamations in distinct units within the tripartite format. Textual phrases are delineated through texture and cadential patterns. Declamatory style defines text setting. Final d, several b-flats, f and g sharps included in source but similar editorial additions are necessary.

Salve, regina, mater misericordiae;

O clemens,

O pia,

O dulcis virgo Maria.
