Partitions

[1] Regina celi

Polyphonic ensemble SATB

[C]-C3; A-C4; T-C4; B-F4. Entire range, F-a’. C and B have specific ranges with limited voice crossing; on the other hand, the two middle voices share similar ranges with considerable voice crossing. Chant (App. 3), primarily in semibreves, introduces each of the four lines within an imitative, polyphonic texture: “regina celi letare,” mm. 1-17; “quia quem,” mm. 25-20; “resurrexit sicut dixit,” mm. 68-78; “ora pro nobis,” mm. 88-99. Chant quotations associated with “letare” and “portare” (mm. 37-41) are limited to initial pitches of the respective melismas. “Alleluia” sections following the first two lines paraphrase the initial pitches of plainsong; the final “alleluia” quotes initial pitches of the chant melisma in C and T (mm. 100-5). Combination of melismatic and syllabic styles define the text setting. Final F, b♭ signature.
