Partitions

Regina celi

Polyphonic ensemble SATB

C-C1; A-C3; T-C4; B-F4. Embellished chant (App. 3), assigned to the T as a cantus firmus, chiefly assumes the rhythmic character of the other voices with limited melodic influence. “Regina celi,” the first textual phrase, begins in homorhythmic style but gradually yields to a texture of independent voices. Only the B participates in imitation of chant associated with “quia…,” “resurrexit” and “ora…”; however, initial pitches of chant for the last “alleluia” permeate the imitative texture (mm. 47-52). This singular setting of Regina caeli with a b♭/e♭ signature begins in B♭, includes several E♭ and c chords, but concludes principal cadences on F (mm. 23, 40, 46 and 59).

Regina caeli laetare, alleluia;
Quia quem meruisti portare, alleluia,
Resurrexit, sicut dixit, alleluia,
Ora pro nobis Deum, alleluia.

The Trope:

Alle Domine nate matris Deus alme nobis confer praestaque vivere:
Quam [quoniam] te decet laus honor O Domine qui de morte surgebas rex pie:
Fac nos tecum surgere, alleluia.
