Polyphonic ensemble BBB

[B I]-F3; B II-F3; B III-F3. Voci pari. Three equal voices, each with the range, B♭-d’. Chant (App. 3) articulates each of the four textual phrases as well as the concluding “alleluia” section within an imitative texture: “regina” (mm. 1-7); “quia quem meruisti” (mm. 17-22); “resurrexit” (mm. 34-9); and “ora pro nobis” (mm. 41-6). The text, “ad Dominum,” that replaces “Deum” in the textual phrase “ora pro nobis Deum” is highlighted as an independent segment (mm. 46-53). Brief imitative “alleluia” segments (4-6 mm.) conclude the first three textual phrases; on the other hand, the final “alleluia” (mm. 53-81) consists of three independent sections: section one (mm. 53-9) comprises two paraphrased statements of the initial pitches of the “alleluia” melisma, and the second section (mm. 59-70) also paraphrases another segment of the melisma both within an imitative texture. Reminiscent of the 13th-c. English rondellus, the third section (mm. 70-81), in contrasting homorhythmic texture, makes use of voice exchange (see below); cadences conclude on unison f. Final F, b♭ signature.
