Partitions

Regina caeli

Polyphonic ensemble SSATTB

[S I]-C1; [S II]-C1; [A]-C3; [T I]-C4; [T II]-C4; [B]-F4. Chant (App. 3), appropriate to the respective texts, introduces the first three textual phrases, but new material completes phrases, within a primarily imitative, contrapuntal texture. To emphasize the text “quia…portare,” Clavius places a rest between “quia” and what follows; subsequent to the close of the third textual phrases “resurrexit…alleluia,” silence prepares the final phrase “ora…Deus” in longer note values and homorhythmic style. Occasional antiphonal effects between four-voice groupings in the “alleluia” sections contrast with the tutti. Declamatory text setting prevails. Final F, b♭ signature.
