Two contrasting choirs. Chr. I: C-G2; A-C2; T-C3; B-C4. Range, c-g’’. Chr. II: C-G2; A-C2; T-C3; B-F3. Range, c-e’’. High clefs. The most obvious contrast of range between choirs appears in the “alleluia” refrain (mm. 16-20, 29-33, 43-7 and 54-8): Chr. I, f-g’’; Chr. II, c-d’’. Chant (App. 3) in breves (T) accompanies the initial “regina coeli” (Chr. I) followed by an identical response for Chr. II (mm. 1-10). Textual phrases are delineated through texture, a refrain, restatement and antiphonal techniques. Not only does the “alleluia” refrain unify the antiphon, the entire texture concurrent with “laetare” (Chr. I, mm. 10-3 and Chr. II, mm. 13-6) is restated in mm. 37-43 (“sicut dixit”) and varied in mm. 49-50 (“nobis). Whereas a polyphonic texture accompanies most of the four text lines, a homorhythmic texture defines the “alleluia” refrain. The antiphon concludes with a four-measure coda of eight independent voices.
