Ave regina caelorum [032]

John Cooke

Titre complet / Autres titres

AC032 Ave regina celorum 3 vv

Partitions

Ave regina celorum

Polyphonic ensemble STX

Tr-C1; T-C4; Ct-C5. No evidence of chant. Two equal upper voices with a somewhat slower moving supportive voices exhibit vestiges of rhythmic modes; complete text only provided for the lowest voice. Pre-Tridentine text with “ave gloriosa” instead of “gaude gloriosa” and concluding with “Alleluya,” an addition that suggests use during the Easter season; the “Alleluya” could be deleted by cadencing 2 measures earlier providing an acceptable antiphon for other seasonal use. Final d, b♭ signature only for Ct.

Ave, regina caelorum,
Ave, domina angelorum:
Salve, radix, salve, porta,
Ex qua mundo lux est orta:

Gaude, virgo gloriosa,
Super omnes speciosa,
Vale, o valde decora,
Et pro nobis Christum exora.

***

Et pro nobis Christum exora.
