Partitions

[1] Alma redemptoris mater

Polyphonic ensemble SATB

[S]-G2; [A]-C3; [T]-C3; [B]-F3. High clefs. Entire range, B♭-f’’. Textual phrases are introduced with appropriate chant motives (App. 1) that permeate the texture. For “tuum sanctum genitorem” chant is principally presented in semibreves and breves in B, A and T. Except for the word “surgere” in homorhythmic style, an imitative, contrapuntal texture prevails. Of interest is the pedal point in the S extending for eight breves at the conclusion of the 1.p. where the lower three voices state the text “surgere qui curat populo” two times in homorhythmic style. Final a (1.p.), F (2.p.), b♭ signature.
