Partitions

[1] Alma redemptoris mater

Polyphonic ensemble SATBB

S-G2; A-C3; T-C3; B I-F3; B II-F3. High clefs. Entire range, B♭-f’’. Chant (App. 1) permeates imitative contrapuntal texture throughout the setting. Chant associated with textual phrases is initially intact but treated with freedom as the lines develop. Following imitative entrances at the beginning of each pars there follows a continuous texture. Of interest are the ostinato-like figures in the B voices associated with “redemptoris,” “et stella maris” and “natura mirante” where two or more identical statements for the respective texts are stated (i.e., 4 for “redemptoris”). Combination of syllabic and melismatic styles defines the text setting. Final F, b♭ signature.

[2] Tu quae genuisti
