C-C1; Ct-C3; T-C3. “Regina celi” intonation (C) introduces a paraphrased chant (App. 3) in the same voice supported by Ct and T within the same range (f-g’); the C and T form the structural axis for the setting, whereas the textless Ct primarily serves as a “filler” voice. Inclusion of the trope Alle Domine nate matris[1] sets this Regina celi apart. Inserted between the final line “Ora…Deum” and the concluding “alleluia,” the trope parallels the melodic and formal structure of the melisma of the final “alleluia” with the musical material for “alle…vivere” restated for “quam…pie” (mm. 62-73 repeat mm. 50-61). Under-third melodic cadences conclude several phrases. Whereas the antiphon text reflects melismatic style, the trope is set in syllabic style. Both partes are in triple mensuration, but 2.p. calls for proportio dupla; thus, 1.p. in 3/2 and 2.p. 3/4. Final F, b♭ signature for Ct and T with necessary editorial of b♭ and e♭ particularly in C.
