Earliest layers (pp. 2-16 and pp. 65-80 of F-Pn Rés. 255 / ff. 1-7' and ff. 32-39' of I-Fl MS Ashb. 1085, in the hand of scribe I) probably compiled for Jacques Daillon, a courtier and soldier of Francis I (Rifkin, based on coat of arms on p. 2 of F-Pn Rés. 255). Much of the repertory in the remaining gatherings appears in Le Roy et Ballard prints from c. 1545 to 1570. Yellow tab stamped in gold inside front cover reads: 'Ex libris / de / La Roche / La Carelle.'
