His last name may refer to the place named Hamencourt, outside Doullens, 30km north of Amiens (Wright 1979, p.59, footnote 24).

Court and chapel of Burgundy, 1384-1404

On 27.5.1384 he was hired by Philip the Bold at Paris alongside Jacques de Fécamp and Jean Coloummiers to be part of Philip's chapel. He started as a clerk, and was then promoted to chaplain on 1.5.1391, remaining in service as a member of the chapel until Philip's death and the disbanding of the court chapel on 16.6.1404 (Wright 1979, p. 57, 212-230). During his time at the court of Burgundy, he was paid twice for nonmusical duties. In 1386, he was sent by Philip to Avignon in order to receive certain bulls from Pope Clement VII "pour la provision des chappelains et clercs de la chappelle" (Wright 1979 p. 66, after F-AD21, B1469, f. 87). In 1396, when the duke had to travel to St. Omer and Calais, he was put in charge of bringing the chapel’s jewels and ornaments from Dijon to Hesdin, St. Omer, and had charge of valets to help transport and guard the items. By 1400 Philip appointed him as a chaplain of the parochial church in Sempy.
