Biographie

Giovanni di Lorenzo de' Medici, born on 11 december 1475 in Florence, died in Rome on 1 december 1521. Second son of Lorenzo de' Medici, ruler of the Florentine Republic, and Clarisse Orsini. Elevated to the cardinalate in 1489, he was elected 217th pope of the Catholic Church on 9 March 1513, under the name Leo X.
