Biographie

Originally from Liège. He appears as one of the “Mutanten-Knaben” (boys whose voices had changed) in the foundation document of Maximilian’s chapel at Vienna (20.7.1498). He went to “Burgundy” to study in 1500 <A-Whh, Abt. Finanz- und Hofkammerarchiv GB VII, 155>. He appears for the first time as court composer of Friedrich the Wise of Saxony in 1507. He appears as “clericus Leodensis diocesis” in the “Rotulus nominationum Maximiliani I” (c. 1508), fol. 82 (nº 298), but without the indication “capella” (he is not the only musician to lack this designation), petitioning for a benefice at the cathedral of Liège. He left the service of Friedrich in 1517, and died at Altenburg in 1520.
