Biographie

Pierre de Vaux, tenorist, was a small vicar from 09 May 1498 to 05 June 1499 (Planchart PCR / 2018, p. 770, after F-AD59, 4G7472 [1497-98], f. 9; (1498-99)]. His recess is not noted in the wine accounts because on that day he was given a leave of absence for fifteen days on account of an illness, but on 26 June he was granted a small gift and dismissed. He appealed his dismissal, but it was confirmed on 08 July (ibid. after F-CA, ms. 1064, f. 184v, 191v, 194). On 21 November 1498 he had been granted a gift on his promotion to orders, so he was probably quite young (ibid. after F-AD59, 4G7771, f. 29v, also F-CA, ms. 1064, f. 131).

Since no other mention of him has been located, one might wonder if he might be the same person as the singer of the papal chapel Pierre de Vian, whose name might also be read "Viau" (Fiala PCR).
