Polyphonic ensemble

The five verses most likely correspond to the odd-numbered verses of the antiphon; however, the chant melody is not always recognizable. The verses begin with imitative treatment of the chant but continue quite independently of the chant. In verse 4 the brief melody of “O clemens” is stated three times in the upper voice.[1]

Salve, regina, mater misericordiae;

O clemens,

O pia,

O dulcis virgo Maria.
