Ad te clamamus

Polyphonic ensemble TBBXX

Ct I-C4; Ct II-C4; T-C5; B I-F5; B II-F5. Voci pari. Entire range, E-e’. Within low ranges for all voices (Ct I and II, c-e’; T-A-c’; B I and II, E-g) crossing of voices frequently occurs. No evidence of chant. Motives associated with textual phrases (“ad te clamamus,” “exsules filii Evae,” “ad te suspiramus,” “gementes et fle ntes” and “in hac lacrimarum vale”) permeate the imitative texture in a series of overlapping points of imitation. Text setting combines syllabic and melismatic style. Final e.

Salve, regina, mater misericordiae;

O clemens,

O pia,

O dulcis virgo Maria.
