[C]-C1; [Ct]-F4; [T]-F4. Entire range, A-c’’. A slightly ornamented “salve” (“vita”) motto introduces partes 1 and 2 within canon[1] at the lower octave and distance of a breve (C & T). Similar canonic procedures apply in 4.p.; on the other hand, pars 3 exhibits canon at the upper octave (T & C). An instrumental voice possesses characteristics of a Ct since it functions in the dual capacity of a filler voice as well as supporting voice. Double leading tone progressions close principal cadences. The words “mater” in verse 1 and “virgo” in verse 9 are omitted. Melismatic text setting prevails. Final d.

1. A canon provides the relationship between text and music:

Qui medio prae meis cantu tibi tempora premis,
Incipio sedem verticis atque pedem;
Sed binis refert brevibus, qui psallere prefert,
Et dyapason eget, carmina quisquis aget.

You who press your times before mine in the middle of the song,
I begin at the foot and bottom of the vortex;
But he who prefers to play a stringed instrument goes back by two breves,
And whoever performs the poems needs an octave.[1]
