[C]-C1; Ct-C4; T-C4. Paraphrased chant (App. 4) resides in C of partes 1 and 3; whereas plainsong begins in C of 2.p., it migrates to T at “illos tuos” (mm. 200-5), to Ct with “miserecordes” (mm. 105-11), back to T for “oculos” (mm. 111-18) but returns to C at “ad nos converte” (m. 118) where it remains for duration of 2.p. Similarly, in pars 4, “O pia,” chant begins in T but migrates to C (mm. 176) to conclude 4.p. Imitation is limited to anticipatory statements of chant (e.g.,”misercordiae,” mm. 15-7; “ad te suspiramus,” mm. 63-5; and “Eia ergo,” mm. 89-90. Within a texture of equal, independent voices, contrasting trio and duo segments abound. Partes 1, 3, 4, and 5 in triple mensuration surround 4.p. (verses 5 and 6) in duple mensuration. Underthird and double leading tone cadences characterize the antiphon. The word “mater” is omitted in verse 1. Final d (1.p., 2.p., 5.p.), a (3.p., 4.p.).

Salve, regina, mater misericordiae;

O clemens,

O pia,

O dulcis virgo Maria.
