[D]-G2; [A]-C3; [T]-C3; [B]-F3. High clefs. Entire range, G-g’’. An alternatim setting of 104 mm., larger than any of the complete Salve reginas in D-Rp MS. C 95. Textual phrases are differentiated through presence of chant, texture, rhythmic gestures and text repetition. A varied “salve/vita” motto (d, e♭, d, c, d; see App. 4)) in semibreves introduces each voice (D, A, T, B; mm. 1-5) within an imitative, contrapuntal fabric; a similar procedure appears with initial pitches (g, f♯, g, a) associated with “O pia,” 4.p., (A, B, D, T; mm. 90-4). “Et Jesum” (mm. 53-7), conceived as a prelude and concluding with a corona, primarily consists of breves & semibreves in homorhythmic style; there follows repetition of sub-phrases in rhythmic gestures of minums and semiminums in homorhythmic style with voice independence. Text repetition is most evident in 2.p. where “in hac lacrymarum valle” appears in six varied statements (mm. 35-52) involving development of motivic material. Except for brief melismas in 1.p. (“vita” and “salve”), 2.p. (“flentes”) and 4.p. (“O pia”), a syllabic text setting prevails. Final g, b♭ signature; e-flats in MS with editorial e-flats required.
