Scores

Polyphonic ensemble SATB

[D]-G2; [A]-C2; [T]-C3; [B]-F3. High clefs. Entire range, B♭-f’’. No. evidence of chant. The first five verses are delineated through various overlapping voice combinations (“salve…,” D, A, T; “vita dulcedo,” D, A, T; “et spes…salve,” D, A, T, B; “ad …Eve,” T, B; “ad…flentes,” D, A; “in hac…valle,” D, T, B; and “eia…nostra,” A, T, B); thereafter, a full texture comprised of independent voices prevails. Syllabic style, primarily associated with minums and semiminums, defines the text setting of this concise antiphon (32 mm.). Final F, b♭ signature.

Salve, regina, mater misericordiae;

O clemens,

O pia,

O dulcis virgo Maria.
