Scores

[1] Salve regina

Polyphonic ensemble SATB

[D]-G2; [A]-C2; [T]-C3; [B]-C4. High clefs. Entire range, B♭-g’’. No evidence of chant. Within a dense polyphonic texture, textual phrases are introduced imitatively. To emphasize specific words or textual phrases (e.g., “Jesum,” B, D, T, mm. 45-8; “O clemens,” D, T, mm. 57-9; and “O dulcis virgo,” D, T, A, mm. 62-8), melodic material has been cast in semibreves comparable to chant quotations. With the exception of a few melismas, syllabic style defines text setting. Final F, b♭ signature.

[2] Eia ergo

Salve, regina, mater misericordiae;

O clemens,

O pia,

O dulcis virgo Maria.
