S I-C1; S II-C1; A-C3; T-C4; B-F4. Chant (App. 4), treated as a cantus firmus in breves and semibreves, defines the first, seventh and eighth partes; except for the intial “salve” motto in T (mm. 1-5), the independent lines, varied rhythmic gestures with overlapping phrases lack chant influence. On the other hand, the second and sixth partes include initial motives associated with “vita” (T) and “Et Jesum” (B) treated as a cantus firmus but yields to an imitative style wherein plainsong permeates the texture. Additionally, Ortiz contrasts voice groups for the third (S, A, T), fourth (A, T, B) and fifth “(S I, S II, A, T) partes. The word “mater” in verse 1 is omitted but “semper” is inserted in verse 9. Declamatory style defines text setting. Final d; to complement plainsong, verses 7 and 8, final on a.

Salve, regina, mater misericordiae;

O clemens,

O pia,

O dulcis virgo Maria.
