C-G2; Ct-C2; T-C4; B-F3. High clefs. Entire range, A-f’’. Alternatim setting. Chant (App 4) serves as a cantus firmus in Ct for pars 1-3 and T for pars 4 where it is usually set apart in long-note values (semibreves, breves and longae); the cantus firmus in 4.p. consists entirely of continuous breves. To introduce textual phrases in 2.p., chant pervades the imitative texture. Although a homophonic texture in breves defines “Et Jesum,” the chant motive associated with the text is absent. Passages in tenths, a mannerism of Obrecht (e.g., C/T, mm. 2-4), occur throughout the antiphon. Triple mensuration defines 1.p.; the remainder of the antiphon is in duple mensuration. A melismatic text setting prevails. Final d, for the first three partes; final a, for 4.p. complements the chant where verse 8 concludes on the dominant.
