Entire range, c-g’’. “In hac lacremarum valle” initially introduced with rising stepwise motion in 1st inversion chords (A/T/B, mm. 36-8)) spans interval of a 6th followed by descending stepwise movement in 1st inversion chords (A/T/B, mm. 38-40) spanning an octave; supported by three lower voices, D descends stepwise g’’ to g’ to conclude pars 2 (mm. 36-44). “Et Jesum” motive is integrated into imitative, polyphonic texture. Plainsong, cast as breves, serves as cantus firmus (D) supported by three independent voices (4.p.). See SR154 for more information. Final g, b♭ signature.
