S I-G2; S II-G2; A-C2; T-C3; B-C4. High clefs. Entire range, B♭-g’’. Like most alternatim settings by Spanish composers the concluding text of verse 6, “nobis…ostende,” remains in plainsong. A Spanish version[1] of the chant, usually in breves and semibreves, permeates the imitative texture at the beginning of selected textual phrases (“vita,” “et Jesum” and “benedictum”). Scored for S I, S II, A and T, the 2.p. not only contrasts with plainsong on either side but also the polyphonic versets (S, A, T, B). Esquivel adds a fifth voice, S II, an equal to S I in a pars free of chant but noteworthy for use of harmonic color to express text, “O dulcis virgo Maria.” New material constitutes a significant feature of the antiphon. Final g, b♭ signature.

1. Since Esquivel makes limited use of chant in Salve regina, it is not possible to cite a specific Spanish or Roman source; it appears that a local or regional variant of the Spanish version may have been employed.
