TpI-C2; A-C4; T-C4; B-F4. Alternatim setting differs from the usual division of text consisting of four plainsong segments and four polyphonic versets by Spanish composers. In addition to plainsong for “nobis post hoc exilium ostende,” the concluding text of verset 6, Escobar divides verse 5 into three segments: the initial “eia…nostra” and concluding words “oculos…converte” in plainsong surround a polyphonic verset of two words (“illos misericordes”) comprising twelve sections. A Spanish chant version[1] in breves and semibreves permeates the imitative texture (e.g., “vita,” “in hac lacrimarum,” “illos” and “O clemens”). The final polyphonic verset “O dulcis virgo semper Maria” includes canon at the upper octave (Tp I and Tp II) based on appropriate chant at the distance of two breves. Alternation between pitches d and A in B with the concurrent chords d and a in harmonic rhythm of one chord change per measure consumes the final nineteen measures (219-37). Final d, G (3.p.), a (5.p.).
