[1] Vita dulcedo

Polyphonic ensemble SATB

Tp-G2; [A]-C2; [T]-C3; [B]-C4. High clefs. Entire range, B♭-g’’. Alternatim setting; verse 6, “Et Jesum…” is divided in two parts, the first, in polyphony and the second, beginning with “nobis…” in chant. Pars 4 includes verses 7-9. A variant[1] of the Spanish version of Salve regina introduces textual phrases; motives associated with “vita” (“salve” motto), “ad te suspiramus,” “gementes,” “et Jesum” and “O clemens” permeate the contrapuntal texture. On the other hand, verse 9 lacks influence of chant. Except for imitative segments, a full-voice texture dominates. The first seven measures of pars 4 of SR046 and SR048 display similar musical materials. A declamatory text setting prevails. Final g, b♭ signature with frequent inclusion of e♭.

Salve, regina, mater misericordiae;

O clemens,

O pia,

O dulcis virgo Maria.
