Regina celi

Polyphonic ensemble SATB

[C]-C3; [A]-C3; [T]-C4; [B]-F3. Voci pari. Entire range, A-g’. Chant (App. 3) introduces each textual phrase as well as the “alleluia” sections within a continuous contrapuntal texture. Although C and A simultaneously state initial pitches of “regina” with different rhythmic values, a complete statement of “regina” in breves appears in T (mm. 3-8). Plainsong permeates the imitative texture within double statements (the second a variation of the first) of the three subsequent textual phrases (“quia…,” mm. 15-29; “resurexit…,” mm. 40-51; and “Ora….,” mm. 66-77). In a similar manner the final “alleluia” consists of two overlapping sections, the second a variation of the first (mm. 78-87=mm. 87-100). A cadential motive first stated in C (mm. 5-7) recurs at the conclusion of most textual and “alleluia” sections. Final F, b♭ signature.
