[1] Regina celi

Polyphonic ensemble SATB

[S]-C1; [A]-C3; [T]-C4; [B]-F4. Chant (App. 3) significantly influences structure of the antiphon. Within an imitative texture, plainsong, as semibreves or breves, introduces textual phrases (“regina celi,” mm. 1-9; “quia quem,” mm. 34-9; “resurrexit,” mm. 73-84; and “ora,” mm. 102-12) as well as specific words (“portare,” mm. 46-58) and the four “alleluia” sections. To complement the repeated plainsong associated with the final “alleluia” the anonymous composer restates the polyphonic complex (mm. 112-25 equals 125-38). Paired imitation (S/A and T/B) defines “Ora…Deum.” Text setting combines syllabic and melismatic styles. Final F, b♭ signature.

Regina caeli laetare, alleluia;
Quia quem meruisti portare, alleluia,
Resurrexit, sicut dixit, alleluia,
Ora pro nobis Deum, alleluia.

The Trope:

Alle Domine nate matris Deus alme nobis confer praestaque vivere:
Quam [quoniam] te decet laus honor O Domine qui de morte surgebas rex pie:
