Regina coeli

Polyphonic ensemble SATB

D-C1; A-C3; T-C4; B-F4. “Regina coeli” intonation (T); brief chant (App. 3) quotations introduce “laetare” (D) as well as the three subsequent textual phrases: “quia…,” D; “resurrexit,” D; and “ora…” B, T, A, D, (mm. 19-21). Textual phrases are differentiated through texture and mensuration in this succinct setting. Full voice texture with individuality of voices characterizes “laetare, alleluia” and “quia…alleluia.” “Resurrexit…dixit,” line 3, in triple mensuration with homophonic/homorhythmic texture contrasts with surrounding material. On the other hand, line 4 “ora…alleluia” includes a chant-related motive associated with “ora” as well as a melodic/rhythmic motive with “alleluia” both of which permeate the imitative texture (mm. 19-31). Final F, b♭ signature.
