[1] Quia quem meruisti

Polyphonic ensemble SSTTBX

[S I]-C2; S II-C1; Ct-C3; T [I]-C4; T [II]-C4; B-F4. Alternatim setting. Chant (App. 3) permeates the imitative texture at the beginning of both partes; subsequent text repetition usually includes newly composed material. “Alleluia” sections are defined by paraphrase of appropriate concurrent chant. To complement symmetry of alternating chant and polyphony the composer created two pars of equal length: 1.p., 40 mm. and 2.p., 39 mm. Antiphonal treatment of “alleluia” (mm. 30-6) that concludes pars 1 involves overlapping alternation of two-measure phrases between T I, T II and B, and S I, S II and Ct. Limited attention to text underlay. Final F, b♭ signature.

[2] Ora pro nobis
