Scores

Polyphonic ensemble SATBXX

C-C1; A-C3; T-C4; Q-C4; B-F4; Bc-C4 and F4. Essentially a basso seguente, the Bc was published in 1598 two years after V 1058. “Regina caeli” motto introduces C (mm. 1-3). A variety of voice groups associated with a specific textual phrases (e.g., “regina…laetare”) or word (“alleluia”) provides contrast with full-voice sections in this brief setting (26 mm.). Within a dense texture that spans a range between homophony to the presence of independent voices, this concise setting consists primarily of minums, semiminums and dotted rhythmic gestures; synchronicity of rhythm and text predominates. A declamatory text setting defined by syllabic style prevails. Final F, b♭ signature.
