Polyphonic ensemble STTBX

C-C1; Ct-C3; T I-C3; T II-C4; B-F4. Entire range, E-d’’. Each of the four textual phrases is replete with chant quotations (App. 3), cast as semibreves, that permeate the imitative, polyphonic texture: “regina…laetare” (mm. 2-17); “quia…portare” (mm. 31-7); “resurrexit sicut dixit” (mm. 58-68); “ora pro nobis deum” includes two statements of chant (T I, A, C, T II, mm. 73-7, and B, T II, T I, A, C, mm. 76-83. Motivic material based upon initial pitches of plainsong introduce the respective “alleluia” segments. A transparent texture characterizes Sermisy’s Regina caeli; a full voice texture applies to only 16 measures of the antiphon (114 mm.). Final F. b♭ signature.
