Scores

[1] Regina celi

Polyphonic ensemble

C-C2; Ct-C4; T-C4. No evidence of chant. The first and third textual phrases scored for two equal voices (“Ad duo”) and the second and fourth phrases for three voices in cantilena style (C) and two supporting voices suggests a symmetrical structure that is emphasized by casting the first two textual phrases in triple mensuration and the final two phrases in duple mensuration. Only the upper voice is texted; text incipits identify lower voices for each phrase. The under-third melodic cadence dominates. Melismatic style defines text setting. Final d.
