Type

Scores

[1] Regina caeli

Polyphonic ensemble SSATB

C I-G2; C II-C1; A-C3; T-C4; B-F4. Chant (App. 3) in breves and semibreves (C I, C II and A) introduces “regina celi” within an imitative context while a countersubject in minums and semiminums contrasts in T and B. On the other hand, chant relegated to S II in long-note values, is surrounded by a countersubject that permeates the imitative texture for “resurrexit.” Initial pitches of chant introduce the second and fourth textual phrases and articulate specific words (“portare,” “sicut dixit” and “alleluia”). A declamatory text setting prevails. Final F, b♭ signature.

[2] Resurrexit
