Full title / Other titles

Type

Motet

Scores

Polyphonic ensemble SATBB

C-C2; A-C3; T-C4; B I-F4; B II-F4. Relegated to the T as a cantus firmus, chant is presented in continuous semibreves; the chant closely resembles the version in the Passau antiphonary.[1] Imitation of initial chant pitches occurs briefly in selected voices; however, new material primarily defines the C, A and B voices. The two B voices perform within the same range (F-c’) with occasional imitative passages (“resurrexit…alleluia” and “ora pro nobis”). A series of syncopated “alleluia” statements (mm. 53-57) prepare the conclusion of the antiphon. Declamatory style text setting prevails. Final F, b♭ signature.

1. Antiphonale Pataviense (Wien 1519). Faksimile, edited by Karlheinz Schlager, Vol. 88, EDM, (Kassel: Bärenreiter, 1985), 62v.
