[S]-C1; [Ct]-C3; T-C3; Theumatenor [Bassus]-F3. Following anticipatory duo in the upper voices, chant (App. 3), with little ornamentation, is stated as a cantus firmus in the lowest voice, the “thematic tenor” transposed a fourth lower on C; the 2.p., “Iam surrexit” [resurrexit] is treated in the same manner. Chant quotations also appear in upper voices (e.g., Ct, mm. 1-4 and S, mm. 6-11). For the first three textual phrases, duos in upper voices precede the cantus firmus; a duo between Ct and B introduces the fourth textual phrase. A highly melismatic style setting prevails in a contrapuntal fabric composed of long lines. Triple mensuration defines the 1.p. whereas duple mensuration prevails in the 2.p.; the final “alleluia” calls for proportio dupla. Final F, b♭ signature for upper three voices; B concludes with F final though the transposed cantus firmus is on C.
