Scores

[1] Ave Domina angelorum

Polyphonic ensemble SATB

[C]-C1; [A]-C3; T-C3; [B]-F3. Alternatim setting.[1] Plainsong sections that introduce partes 2, 3 and 4 (“salve radix sancta,” “gaude gloriosa” and “vale valde”) are included in CasAC C. Chant either permeates the imitative texture (“ave,” 1.p. and “et pro nobis,” 4.p.) or serves as a cantus firmus: “ex qua mundo,” semibreves in B, (2.p., mm. 22-9); “super omnes,” breves in B and “speciosa,” breves in T, (3.p., mm. 45-68). Varied statement of material or repetition of material concludes partes 1, 2, & 3: “angelorum,” mm. 12-15=15-8; “lux est orta,” mm. 36-40=40-4; and “super Christum exora,” mm. 83-90=90-6. Primarily constructed of breves and longae, 3.p. markedly contrasts with the other partes. Combination of syllabic and melismatic styles defines the Pre-Tridentine text. Final F, b♭ signature.
