Scores

Ave regina celorum

Polyphonic ensemble STX

[C]-C1; T-F2 and C4; Ct-F2 and C4. No evidence of chant. Four-measure phrases and prevailing homorhythmic style emphasize structural clarity. The Pre-Tridentine text is carried by C and T whereas the Ct suggests a supportive instrumental voice; “Allelluya” concludes the setting in triple mensuration. Final d.

Ave, regina caelorum,
Ave, domina angelorum:
Salve, radix, salve, porta,
Ex qua mundo lux est orta:

Gaude, virgo gloriosa,
Super omnes speciosa,
Vale, o valde decora,
Et pro nobis Christum exora.

***

Pre-Tridentine version:

Ave, domina angelorum,
Salve radix sancta
Ex qua mundo lux est orta:

Et pro nobis Christum exora.

***
